Vatican Beyond Vatican: Lateran and Papal Basilicas
3-Hour Car and Walking Tour
In our opinion:
Major Basilicas of Rome: St Mary Major, St Paul outside the Walls and St John Lateran and Holy Steps in one morning
In our customers opinion:
” We managed to see the Lateran and other
Papal Basilicas in one morning. It was
nice to be picked and dropped off at our hotel” Patricia Halvorsen, Toronto, Canada
Why Go
The Basilica of St John Lateran is called ” Mater Eclessias”, the mother of all Roman Catholic churches. Built by emperor Constantine, it had been the first papal church in Rome and the cathedral of the Roman bishop. Together with its first Roman baptistery and the shrine of the Holly Steps, it is a perfect setting for the lecture tour of early Christian Rome.
Follow the steps of the first Roman pilgrims to Basilica of St Mary the Major to see some of the oldest Roman Christian mosaics and then to St Paul’s outside the Walls with the tomb of the Saint
